In the early 1990's Star of Hope staff member, Kim Hansen, and volunteer, Wendy Dewlen realized a dire need in the community when the homeless youth they served returned to their neighborhoods where circumstances overrode the progress made in their previous programs. In 1991, a group of concerned citizens, led by Hansen and Dewlen, came together to form Hope for Youth as a way to help these teenagers thrive in difficult surroundings. Operating in the Third Ward on the grounds of Yellowstone Academy, Hope for Youth is a 501(c)(3) non- profit organization that provides activities and programs designed to give Houston's disadvantaged youth a fighting chance for a better future, through healthy relationships with mentors and growing relationships with Jesus Christ.
For over 16 years, youth from various inner city neighborhoods and housing projects around Houston have been offered a better chance to discover their full potential through the programs at Hope for Youth.
