Problem: The population of at-risk youth from the chronically homeless and transient population is often overlooked. Data indicates that youth participating in Hope for Youth’s programs are only handfuls of the 2,400 situational homeless in Houston under the age of 18 who are subject to multiple risk factors, including: - Impoverished neighborhoods
- Negative peer relationships
- Dysfunctional family situations
- Substandard academics and learning differences
- Criminal behavior and substance abuse
| Solution: Unlike many urban youth programs that only focus on one specific geographic community, Hope for Youth works with Junior and Senior High students (ages 11-19) from all over Houston. Whether from Spring or Alief, the 5th or 3rd Wards, our students find the hope that they deserve. Many families in poverty are forced to move frequently, and Hope for Youth is committed to working with these teens through their transience, often providing the only stability and consistency in their social and academic lives. Hope for Youth provides after school prevention and intervention service to youth using the following strategies: - Discipleship and mentoring
- Bible study
- College preparation and tutorial programs
- Weekend activities
- Sports camp
