College Prep

11th and 12th grade students can access free assistance in the college application process through Hope for Youth’s College Prep program. The program provides help in the mechanics of college application through campus visits, SAT registration, and financial aid. The program also provides motivational encouragement and guidance through guest speakers and academic assistance in which the students complete a minimal course of SAT and ACT prep.

Hope for Youth’s College Prep program is held on twelve Tuesday nights in both the fall and spring semesters. Volunteer drivers transport the students to and from the program. There is a $5 fee per student (which does not cover the expenses of the program, but reiterates the idea that students need to invest in their own education).

In the 2006-2007 school year, the program was capped at 20 participants, turning 12 students away, due to limited resources.

This program has been tremendously successful--Of the 11 seniors in the program, 9 were accepted and plan to attend four-year universities, while the other 2 are enrolled in community colleges.
